Protecting your family costs less than your coffee habit

If your family depends on your income, term life insurance isn't a luxury — it's a necessity. A $500,000–$1,500,000 tax-free benefit often costs just $30–50 a month. I compare quotes from 18+ carriers to find your best rate.

How term life works

You choose a coverage amount (the death benefit) and a term — 10, 15, 20 or 30 years. If the insured passes away during the term, beneficiaries receive the full benefit tax-free: money to replace income, pay off the mortgage, fund education and keep the family's life on track.

How much coverage? A common approach: enough to cover your family's expenses for the years your kids need to reach independence. If your child is 10, a 15-year term sized to your family's income or spending over those years is a sensible starting point.

The math is surprisingly kind: a healthy 35-year-old can often get $1,000,000 of 20-year coverage for roughly the price of a few coffees a month. Rates lock in when you buy — which is the argument for buying while young and healthy.

A small payment today, a different life tomorrow

Your income protects your family today. Term life insurance protects them if one day you're not there — it's that simple, and that important.

Many policies offer living benefits — early access to part of the benefit in case of serious illness — and conversion options that let you switch to permanent coverage later without a new medical exam.

As an independent broker I quote Prudential, Transamerica, Mutual of Omaha, John Hancock, Protective, Corebridge and a dozen other carriers — rates for the same coverage genuinely differ, and the comparison is free.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much coverage do I need?

A quick rule of thumb: 10–15× your annual income, or your family's projected expenses until the kids are independent plus outstanding debts. We'll calculate it properly in ten minutes — everyone's situation is different.

What does it actually cost?

For a healthy non-smoker in their 30s–40s, $500K–$1M of 20-year coverage typically runs $30–70/month. Exact pricing depends on age, health and term — I'll pull real quotes from 18+ carriers for you.

What happens when the term ends?

Coverage simply ends (or renews at higher rates). Many clients ladder terms to match their needs — e.g., a 20-year policy while the kids grow up. Some policies can be converted to permanent coverage along the way.

Do I need a medical exam?

Not always — many carriers now offer no-exam underwriting at competitive rates for qualified applicants. We'll see what you qualify for.
